This year, VUT is joining forces with FELIN, the independent labels association in France, to discuss the chances and challenges of starting and running a music company. Founders from Germany and France will talk about the reasons for starting their own companies. How did they grow their businesses? Are there specific challenges for women running companies in the music industry? How did they overcome them? Are there differences between France and Germany?
After the panel, we´ll offer speed meetings to give women* from Germany and France the chance to get to know each other.

Aleksandra Skwarc, Founder & CEO, Musique Couture, GER

You have to think really hard, if you wanna choose the right headline for a text about Aleksandra »Bonnie« Skwarc. The reason? Too many options! After Aleks started from the bottom – at a Hamburg school with focus on music – she worked her way up from Djing at the legendary underground club »Golden Pudel«, before she went to Berlin to do the booking for the former nightlife institution »Scala«. But today she doesn’t work for anyone but herself – since she founded Musique Couture with two friends.
Since 2010 Musique Couture works as an agency for well selected playlists, music counseling, DJ Booking and self-hosted Parties. And of course, in case you wondered: she stills works as a DJ! What’s important to know: Aleksandra also is a great host, who loves to plan rampantly glamouros parties for her friends – and for her friends friends, too. What started as a series of parties under the moniker »In Love with...« is now »Rendez Vous«, a place for finding new friends (or lovers) in Berlin’s most exclusive venues.
When she’s behind the DJ decks herself, Aleks aka Bonnie is: unstoppable. That’s why she did already play tracks with cultural icons like Jürgen Teller, Vivienne Westwood or Jennifer Lawrence in attendance. One of the highlights of her DJ career: Playing as a support act for Lady Gaga when she performed at the world famous »Berghain.«
Other than that you find Bonnie djing everywhere: at gallery openings, in restaurants (with the fashion crowd dancing on tables. No joke!), clubs and department stores. Where? That doesn’t matter. Bonnie handles every place and every crowd with ease because – after many years in the game – she hasn’t forgotten what djing is all about: F-U-N! We can’t foresee whether Aleks will be playing Spandau Ballet or Kendrick Lamar when you catch her behind the decks but there’s one thing we know for sure: she will smile!
Charlotte Decroix, Founder, HER MAJESTY’S SHIP, FRA

Graduate of a master of communication and media at the French Press Institute in Paris, Charlotte Decroix began her professional life in an event agency - La Lune Rousse. This experience allowed her to learn about production and project management, and to collaborate with many artists, including musicians.
Thanks to these encounters she developed a love for electronic music, and liked to supervise and accompany artists in their careers.
After 5 years spent in this agency, she decided to go independent. An opportunity then came with the British producer and musician David Shaw, whose first album was almost finished: together they created Her Majesty's Ship Records, a label which she runs since in 2012.
Six years later, the label counts about thirty releases, between electronic pop, cold wave and indie dance.
In parallel with this activity of producer and publisher, Charlotte collaborates regularly with many organizations related to music industry such as MaMA Festival, ADAMI, and she has now joined the FELIN to work actively on their new program of mentoring for women in the music industry.
